How to Detox the Human Body

Have you decided to go on a detox diet and become confused by the number of plans, programs and instructions you have read? Have you seen conflicting advice and wondered who is right? Well there is no one right way. Everyone is different.

Each person has a different health problem she or he wants to improve. Eash person's toxic load is different and each person's level of nutrient deficiency is different. People have different metabolisms. Some are fast metabolisers and some are slow. So what is right for one person is not right for another. What works for one may not give the same results for another. So we come back to the question :

How do you detox the Human Body ?

The basis for all body detox programs are really the same. They all aim to rid the body of toxins, the waste products that have accumulated over the years clogging our systems and causing congestion to increase the vitality of the body. This vitality or newly found energy in the cells allows the body to repair and regenerate itself. The various intensive detoxification regimes undertaken by some people with cancer have proved that this can happen.

All detox diets share the same principles that you avoid foods and drinks that are detrimental to the body and use natural preferrably organic whole foods. The recommended foods help provide the minerals, vitamins and amino acids and other nutrients that the body needs on a regular basis to repair and renew itself.

All agree that a high proportion of fresh vegetables and some fruit is necessary. Usually whole grains, with exception of wheat, pulses, and limited use of oils, nuts and seeds is included. Wheat is the most difficult grain to digest and can aggravate existing digestive disorders. Nuts and seeds are limited as they are considered hard to digest for a lot of people and the oils are a burden to the liver which is the main organ of detoxifcation.

The use of animal protein in detox diets is hotly debated. Some argue that animal protein is heavy, clogging, congesting and harder to digest. Others insist that animal protein is needed to supply the amino acids required by the liver for its very complicated and sophisticated detox pathways or routes. Others maintain that a whole grains especially brown rice with pulses supply enough amino acids for effective detoxification.

Proponents of Metabolic Typing, a system devised to determine which foods and nutrients are best for your type of metabolism say that the best detoxification diet is one which gives your cells the best energy.  This can only be achieved if you eat the right foods for your metabolic type and some types need animal protein.

Some detoxifcation experts recommend that vegetarians start eating animal proteins especially when they have been very sick. Poultry, red meat and fish will provide excellent nutrition for them. Others who have had a high meat diet often do better when they reduce their intake of meat and balance their diets with other foods.

Dairy products are very  limited or eliminated from detoxification diets. They tend to be very acid forming, come high on the list of common food allergies and intolerance and have been blamed for the origins of atherosclerosis and heart attacks. Unless organically produced they have been found to contain toxins that mimic oestrogen and can play havoc with our hormone balance.

Which detoxification progam you go on will depend on which one appeals to you and which eating plan you will feel comfortable doing. It will depend too on how much experience you have already had and the severity of health problems you want to improve.

Start with gentle, short and less taxing cleanses and work your way to the more vigorous and longer plans.
